Hair & barbering

Cuts, colour, care and beard styling, explained for salon clients.

Most disappointments at the hairdresser do not happen in the chair but before it — in the conversation. "Just the ends" means two different lengths to two people, and a photo on a phone shows a colour that started from someone else's base. Saying what should stay gets you closer to what you mean than saying what should go.

With colour, physics joins in. Dark hair does not turn light by putting light colour over it — it has to be lifted, and how far that goes in one appointment is decided by the condition of the hair, not by the wish. That is why balayage, foils and bleaching take different amounts of time and cost different amounts; the differences are in the articles, along with the aftercare each one needs.

The third part is what happens at home. A cut holds six to ten weeks, a colour leaves the hair a little further with every wash, and beard care is a routine rather than a product. This section explains both: what happens in the salon, and what afterwards decides how long it lasts.
